Women’s Divisions grand final preview

Mar 5, 2021 | Senior Touch

The last time Stride Health and Cudgegong Plumbing played in the Women’s Division One grand final, it ended up in a 3-on-3 drop-off to determine the winner.

A year on since Stride Health emerged victorious, nothing much has changed, with the two teams playing thrilling matches throughout the 2020-21 season.

Cudgegong Plumbing go into the decider as minor premiers but still licking their wounds after Stride Health upstaged them 4-3 a fortnight ago to qualify first for the grand final.

If any of their three other results are anything to go by, another drop-off certainly isn’t out of the question.

Arguably Stride Health have some of the best attackers in their arsenal with Liz Channon, Sally Harris, Zali Yeo and Grace Quinn calling the shots.

However, Cudgegong Plumbing pride themselves on their ‘D’. They boast the best defensive record in the competition with 13 tries scored against them.

Although their defence is their key to their success, they can pile on the points too, especially if the Rawlinson twins – Maddie and Shauna – find some open space.

The Women’s Division Two competition sees Jade Env taking on Kiddie Academy Mudgee.

Some late recruiting from Kiddie Academy Mudgee has helped them to come from fourth on the ladder a month ago and into a grand final.

A run of four unbeaten matches gives them plenty of confidence heading into the decider.

Although their task will be a mammoth one with Jade Env yet to taste defeat.

Jade Env has scored twice the number of tries than any other team and on average concede one try per match.

The Women’s Division One grand final will be played at 6pm, and the Women’s Division Two grand final will be played at 3.30pm.
