Mudcrabs claim title in thriller

Mudgee Mudcrabs claimed the NSW Touch Women’s 30s Country Championship following a gripping win in the final last weekend in Wollongong.
Up against the host club, the Mudcrabs came back twice and eventually hit the lead when Ellan Kelly crossed over untouched to claim a 3-2 win for the purple brigade.
It was Mudgee’s third Country Championship victory since 2020, and second in the women’s 30s division.
Mudgee did not lose a match over the weekend, a 4-4 draw against Wollongong in the round games on Saturday the only blemish.
Also at the Country Championships were the Men’s 30s and Men’s 40s.
The Mudcrabs were the defending champions in the Men’s 30s and unfortunately could not repeat their performance they achieved at Glen Willow 12 months earlier.
With a host of stars in their side including former Australian representatives Justin Gossage, Roy Prasad and Simon Lang, Mudgee had strong wins over Maitland, Dubbo and Moruya.
They went down to Wollongong – last year’s runner’s up – in the semi-final.
The Men’s 40s continued to improve over the weekend; drawing with Maitland their best result of the weekend.
All three teams will continue to train with the State Cup to be held in Port Macquarie in early December.
