The Ori make it last drinks for Col Matthews Motors

The Ori have ended Col Matthews Motors’ three-year reign in the Men’s Division One with a 6-5 win in Saturday’s grand final.

Having fallen short on each occasion during the past three seasons, The Ori had a point to prove – they were minor premiers and had beaten Col Matthews Motors in their only two meetings.

But would they get the wobbles on the big stage?

Their first set disprove that when Jeremy Doherty set sail a long-ball to Tom Durrant and the youngster scored the first of his three tries for the afternoon.

As the match progressed, The Ori skipped out to a 5-1 lead. It was then when the sleeping giant started to stir.

Roy Prasad tried to orchestrate Col Matthews Motors’ comeback, scoring two tries of his own and together with Justin Gossage, set-up other tries.

However, The Ori’s fast start was too much for Col Matthews Motors and despite scoring the final try in the match, it was too late.

Doherty’s performance was rewarded with him claiming the Sam Bateman Perpetual Award for Player of the Final.

The Men’s Division Two grand final saw the minor premiers One Mob upstaged by Woolpack Hotel upstaged 3-1.

It was an end-to-end match with neither side able to convert chances.

However, it appeared the older heads of Woolpack proved to be the key as they showed their experience to thwart any attack made by One Mob.

Woolpack’s Simon Flynn was named the Player of the Final.

In the Men’s Division Three grand final, Dyno completed their undefeated season to claim back-to-back titles.

Player of the Final Freddy May scored two tries as did Brad Riley, as Dyno took home the trophy for another year with a 7-3 win over Tradies in the decider.
